Overview

About the Role

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) plays a key role in enhancing patient care and improving clinical systems within the Trauma Service. In collaboration with Trauma Physicians, the multidisciplinary Trauma Team, and other healthcare professionals, the Trauma APN delivers direct patient care to trauma patients. This role draws upon advanced clinical expertise to support patient management, provide staff orientation, consultation, and evaluation, and offer education to patients, families, and healthcare team members. The APN works closely with physicians and nursing leadership to assess and address both patient care and staff development needs. Additionally, the APN holds a clinical faculty appointment and serves as a preceptor for students. The role includes participation in staff development initiatives, patient and family education, performance improvement efforts, and trauma-related research and educational programs. All performance standards are monitored by the Director of the Division of Trauma and the Trauma Program Manager, unless otherwise specified.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do
  • Enhances patient care and clinical practices within the Trauma Service
  • Provides direct clinical care to trauma patients in collaboration with Trauma Physicians, the Trauma Team, and other healthcare professionals
  • Utilizes advanced nursing knowledge to support patient management and care delivery
  • Leads and participates in staff orientation, clinical consultations, and performance evaluations
  • Educates patients, families, and healthcare staff to promote understanding and improve outcomes
  • Collaborates with physicians and nursing leadership to identify and address patient care and staff development needs
  • Holds a clinical faculty appointment and serves as a preceptor for nursing and medical students
  • Participates in staff development programs, patient/family education initiatives, and trauma-related research and quality improvement projects
  • Ensures all duties and responsibilities meet performance standards as evaluated by the Director of the Division of Trauma and the Trauma Program Manager
Qualifications

What You'll Bring

Required:
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the State of New Jersey
  • Master's Degree required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience required
  • At least two (2) years of surgical intensive care or trauma RN experience preferred
  • Experience caring for patients on research protocols preferred
  • Understanding of clinical research principles is highly desirable
  • Must be computer literate with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and group communication skills required
  • Compassion and professionalism are essential
  • Current certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

The expected salary range for this position is ($136,294.00 - $186,385.00) per year in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
