Montgomery College, Rockville campus, is seeking a full-time Political Science faculty member to fill a position beginning Spring 2026. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This faculty member will have the opportunity to teach a range of Political Science classes, with an emphasis on American Government, State and Local Government, and Introduction to Public Policy. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment, and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work and utilizing instructional technology.

Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Montgomery College has three campuses, an east county education center, and instructs courses at area high schools. Faculty may be assigned to any of these locations and/or to teaching online.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Faculty members are expected to teach a variety of Political Science courses offered by the discipline, with an emphasis in this position on teaching American Government, State and Local Government, and Introduction to Public Policy.
  • Faculty may be asked to teach early morning, evening, weekend, off-campus, remote, or online courses.
  • Faculty members teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities may exist for faculty to teach summer and winter.
  • Faculty duties include serving on department, campus and college-wide committees, advising students, providing leadership to student clubs, maintaining an active program of professional development, and participating in professional organizations and activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Political Science or closely related field. Graduate coursework must include courses that reflect both depth and breadth in Political Science.
  • Experience or professional development training on working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience or professional development training on effective technology use in the classroom.
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Political Science or closely related field.
  • Experience with academic advising.
  • Currency in content and pedagogy in Political Science; at least one year of teaching experience in this or a related discipline at the college or secondary level.
  • Community college teaching experience and a commitment to the community college mission.
  • Experience working with dual enrollment student populations.
  • Competence in web-based or other distance education courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Experience supporting students to overcome barriers to academic success.

Hiring Range: $63,254 - $96,299 annually.
