About the Role
\nWe are seeking a passionate and experienced Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our dedicated faculty. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to high academic expectations, values the importance of student voice, and believes in purposeful, standards-aligned instruction.
\nYou’ll be responsible for teaching ELA across grades 6–8, with a focus on literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, and helping students grow as confident, skilled readers and writers.

Key Responsibilities
\nDeliver engaging, standards-based lessons aligned to Common Core ELA standards for grades 6–8.
\nTeach across all domains of ELA: literature, informational texts, vocabulary, grammar, and writing (narrative, argument, informative, and research).
\nDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and provide targeted small-group support.
\nIntegrate writing and discussion into daily instruction to build critical thinking and communication skills.
\nUse technology and real-world applications to enhance student engagement and learning.
\nMonitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction as needed.
\nProvide timely, constructive feedback to guide student growth.
\nCollaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and support schoolwide goals.
\nCommunicate regularly with families about student progress and learning targets.
\nCreate a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
\nParticipate in ongoing professional development aligned with SHPS’s mission and educational model.

What We Are Looking For
\nBachelor’s degree required, ideally in English, Education, or a related field.
\nExperience teaching middle school ELA preferred, especially in a private or independent school setting.
\nStrong knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for ELA.
\nAbility to design and implement instruction that integrates reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
\nSkill in using assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
\nEffective classroom management that fosters respect, engagement, and accountability.
\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills.
\nCommitment to continuous learning and reflective teaching practice.
