Nurse Practitioner, RN - LV Durango Family Medicine Clinic - Per Diem 10 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union) Keck Medicine of USC Hospital – Las Vegas, Nevada Overview The Nurse Practitioner (NP) has specialized skill and knowledge related to the practice setting. The NP performs physical examinations, documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services according to established evidence-based clinical practice standards. The NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and advance practice profession. Duties may include obtaining patient health histories, conducting complete physical examinations, documenting findings, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, and performing procedures as needed within the specialty area. The NP helps facilitate safe and efficient operational flow of the patient through their continuum of care. The NP functions as part of inter-professional teams by communicating, planning, and implementing care directly with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, office staff, and other advance practice providers (APPs). Under general supervision and in accordance with standardized procedures, the incumbent performs physical examinations and treats common episodic and chronic health problems, counsels patients and families, monitors patient progress, and assists with medical research projects. The NP takes a leading role in managing the clinical aspects of the clinic, patient rounding and care, nursing performance improvement, staff evaluations, scheduling, and orientation/training of new employees. The NP executes leadership in Direct/Indirect Patient Care, Support of Systems, Research, Education, and Professional Leadership. The NP collaborates with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient. Must work with physicians in the Clinic. Other duties as assigned. Essential Duties Conducts in-depth interviews with patients and/or family; constructs comprehensive medical histories; performs initial and periodic physical examinations and assesses health needs. Identifies and treats diseases. Manages treatment of hospitalized patients. Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets results. Develops and implements long- and short-range treatment plans. Performs procedures such as obtaining specimens, injections, immunizations, lumbar punctures, skin biopsies, suturing, wound care, and management of trauma- or infection-related conditions. Writes orders to adjust medications; subject to physician counter-signature. Initiates consultations and monitors scheduling of patients for special tests. Maintains medical records, updates charts, adjusts orders as needed, and notifies the physician of changes in patient condition. Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, and prescribed treatments. Acts as liaison with governmental agencies (e.g., CDC, NIH); assists with medical research projects and follows research protocols; obtains IRB approval for treatment protocols as required. Researches community resources for referrals based on patient needs and conditions. Adheres to established University and department policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and accreditation/regulatory requirements. Participates in in-service education programs and professional associations. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program. Minimum of 5 years combined education/experience in clinical nursing (experience may substitute for minimum years). Excellent communication skills: able to speak, read, and write English proficiently. Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to understand, follow, and perform duties. Preferred Qualifications Required Licenses/Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) – California Board of Registered Nursing Nurse Practitioner (NP) – California Board of Registered Nursing Nurse Practitioner Furnisher – California DCA (current license to furnish medications in California) DEA Certificate (unrestricted) for Schedule II–V substances NP Board Certification in specialty area (ABSNC or NCCA). For hospital/acute care settings, ANCC or AACN ACNP/AGACNP certification may be required at hire; grandfathered if applicable prior to 12/2015 Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association (as required by NP role) Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – within 30 days of hire and renewed as required Las Vegas area requirements: NP specialty certifications (ACNP, ANP, FNP, or AGNP); Nevada DEA certificate; Nevada Board of Pharmacy license; Nevada RN license; USC Credentialing within 6 months of hire; BLS certification The hourly rate range for this position is $64.00 - $105.60.
