Who We're Looking For:

EmpiRx Health is in unprecedented growth phase, and we're seeking a skilled Public Affairs Specialist . In this important role, you will be responsible for implementing strategies and programs that enhance EmpiRx Health's voice in legislative and political matters and foster effective relationships with policymakers, lawmakers and other stakeholders that can impact and influence our business. This individual will engage a range of policymakers and their staffs, healthcare industry organizations, industry influencers and other key stakeholders. They will help to manage communications and outreach about legislative issues that impact EmpiRx Health and the PBM industry overall, advocating for policies that align with our organization's goals and objectives.

What You'll Do:

As Public Affairs Specialist , your role will encompass a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Implement Advocacy Strategies and Programs : Help to create and execute comprehensive advocacy strategies that effectively communicate EmpiRx Health's position on legislative issues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, healthcare industry influencers, media, and other stakeholders across public and private sectors to effectively influence public policy and demonstrate EmpiRx Health's leadership.
  • Monitoring Legislation : Monitor relevant legislation and policy developments, assessing their potential impacts on EmpiRx Health and apprising our team accordingly.
  • Coordinate Policymaker/Legislative Initiatives : Collaborate with internal and external teams such as marketing/proposals, legal, compliance, finance, business intelligence, sales, underwriting, as well as our PR agency, law/lobbying firms and industry trade association, to ensure consistent messaging and a unified approach to PBM/healthcare legislative advocacy.
  • Communicate Effectively : Prepare materials, including briefing papers, policy position statements, press releases, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Help to Organize Public Affairs Activities : Work with the full marketing team to help organize events, such as legislative meetings, lobbying days, roundtables, and conferences to educate stakeholders about EmpiRx Health and its important role in the PBM/healthcare industry.
  • Analyze Legislative Outcomes : Provide analysis and reporting on legislative activities and outcomes, including the impact of new PBM reform laws on EmpiRx Health's business.
  • Issues and Crisis Management : Work closely with the CMO, marketing colleagues and legal team to implement crisis communication plans for legislative challenges or policy-related issues and controversies that may affect EmpiRx Health and its brand.

What You Need:

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience : At least 4-6 years of experience in public and/or legislative affairs, government relations, or a related area with direct experience in legislative advocacy.
  • Proven Skills : Understanding of federal, state, and local legislative processes; excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Healthcare Experience: Experience in healthcare public/legislative affairs, preferably in the pharmacy benefits management industry, employee benefits services and solutions, and/or healthcare insurance.
  • Networking Ability : Ability to effectively network and engage with policymakers, especially their staffs; also engage with media, legislative colleagues of other PBM organizations, industry associations, influencers, and key stakeholders; experience in coalition building and advocacy teams.
  • Analytical Skills : Ability to synthesize information and advocate for positions effectively.
  • Strong Writing Skills: Writing is an essential part of this job. We are looking for a candidate who is a solid and experienced writer, with excellent knowledge of grammar and punctuation and superior attention to detail and self-editing. Not only will they be responsible for writing policy position papers, stakeholder letters and white papers, but also press releases, blog posts, LinkedIn content, etc.
