Senior Construction Project Accountant Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Construction Project Accountant to manage the financial aspects of multiple construction projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring project financials are accurately tracked, reported, and aligned with budget expectations. The ideal candidate has strong experience in job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and construction contracts, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Manage full-cycle project accounting for multiple construction projects from inception through completion Track and analyze project costs, budgets, and variances; prepare monthly job cost reports and forecasts Maintain and reconcile WIP schedules, percent-complete reports, and project billing schedules Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field teams to ensure accurate cost coding and budget alignment Process owner billings (AIA format), subcontractor billings, change orders, and retainage Support cash flow analysis and revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and company policy Monitor lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and compliance documentation Assist with project audits, monthly closes, and financial reporting packages Identify opportunities for improved financial controls, process efficiencies, and automation Serve as a key finance liaison for project teams and senior management Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 in construction or project-based accounting Strong understanding of construction financials, contracts, cost codes, and WIP accounting Proficient with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar) Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally CPA or CMA preferred but not required Preferred Traits: Self-starter with a proactive mindset and ownership mentality Comfortable working in a deadline-driven, team-oriented environment Able to balance accuracy with efficiency Analytical thinker who enjoys problem-solving and process improvement
