Job Title: Program Director

Location: Hybrid; 2-3 days in the office and 2-3 days per week working remotely

Reports To: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

Organizational Summary:

Girls on the Run (GOTR) Greater Boston is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. We are one of nearly 200 GOTR chapters across the US and Canada. Our program creates a safe place for girls to grow in confidence through identifying and processing emotions, goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while improving their physical health and stamina.

We anticipate serving over 3,000 girls in our programs in 2024. The Program Director will join our team of seven staff members as we work to benefit Greater Boston-area girls through our mission-driven nonprofit.

Position Summary:

The Girls on the Run Greater Boston (GOTRGB) Program Director must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. You are a team player with a roll-up-your-sleeves approach who enjoys building new and authentic relationships with others. As part of a small team, the Program Director is responsible for leading a team that includes a Program Manager and Program Coordinators securing new sites each season and ensuring that programs are well-run and set up for long-term success. By providing outstanding customer service to all constituents - from school and community administrators to coaches and families - the Program Director will help establish GOTR teams in diverse communities throughout Greater Boston.

This position requires travel to program sites throughout eastern MA and includes some evenings and weekends as needed. Candidates should have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

The Program Director is responsible for managing all Girls on the Run programs and coaches.

Key responsibilities within these areas include, but are not limited to:

Program Growth and Site Management

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Program Team, develop a regional outreach plan for program growth. This plan should focus on the actions we must take to reach our goal of serving 5,000 girls annually by 2026. The plan should identify opportunities for program expansion at schools in communities throughout Greater Boston, community centers, and other locations. The plan should also include strategies for attracting and retaining coaches and retaining and growing current sites. The successful candidate will also be able to Identify and establish new partnerships to help achieve program growth. The Program Director, working with the Program Team and other GOTR staff, will be responsible for implementing the plan.

  • Present to community leaders, school district and individual school leadership, and other groups to increase the number of locations offering the GOTR program
  • Support the needs of new and existing sites, conducting site visits to ensure quality program implementation
  • Enforce current site policies and procedures, implementing improvements, as needed
  • Act as the main point of contact at specified sites each season, working closely with Site Liaisons and/or Coaches from each of these sites

Coach Recruitment and Retention

  • Develop effective coach recruitment and retention strategies that result in qualified volunteers
  • Work with the Engagement and Communications Director to recruit and retain a diverse pool of community coaches who reflect the population of girls we serve
  • Enforce current coaching policies and procedures, implementing improvements as needed
  • Support coach volunteers and design appreciation initiatives

Program Management

  • Supervise the Program Manager and a team of 3-6 Program Coordinators.
  • Working with GOTR’s Director of Finance and Operations, manage participant financial assistance policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with sites, coaches and families
  • Help set site, team and participant goals and work with program team to reach those goals

Organizational Support

  • Play a key role at the fall and spring end-of-season 5K events
  • Attend community events on behalf of the organization to raise awareness of the organization or in support of a community partnership
  • Attend organization events including coach meetings, coach trainings, fundraisers, and the Girls on the Run 5K events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8-10 years work experience
  • Experience with Girls on the Run
  • Prior work with project and/or team management
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to effectively respond to unforeseen challenges
  • Self-starter who enjoys taking initiative
  • Experience with CRM software
  • Ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Passion for collaboration and bringing people together
  • High level of comfort working with and serving people of diverse backgrounds

Salary and Work Environment

The Program Director is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Executive Director, offering a salary of $80,000 to $100,000 annually. Some evening and weekend availability is needed to support coach, volunteer, and fundraising events. This position is in GOTR’s downtown Boston office 2-3 days/week, with remote work allowed on designated days each week; however, candidates must reside in the Girls on the Run Greater Boston program area.
