Research Assistant Scientist
Job Description:The Department of Neuroscience is seeking candidates for a full-time position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist,(non-tenure rack).
The successful candidate will develop and direct research to determine the brain circuitry and arousal systems necessary for the control breathing, and how these neural mechanisms are influenced by opioids. As part of this, the successful candidate will:
1) Independently determine and develop appropriate methods to allow for rigorous, controlled, and sensitive data collection using optogenetic, pharmacological, and a variety of in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiological methods.
2) Train and supervise lab staff in the execution of research methods and the subsequent data analysis.
3) Serve as a liaison between PI, lab staff, and collaborators within as well as external to UF to coordinate projects in an efficient manner.
4) Independently synthesize results into peer-reviewed manuscripts and also deliver results at conferences.
The successful candidate is expected to aid the PI/supervisor in grant preparation and reporting. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
1) Complete understanding and compliance with laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines.
2) Maintenance of accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies.
The successful candidate will be expected to accomplish the above duties independently, with only minimal consultation from the PI/supervisor.
Expected Salary:$71,000.00- $73,000.00
Minimum Requirements:Ph.D. In Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate should possess a proven track record in the field of neuroscience and pharmacology with an understanding of electrophysiological techniques, particularly the patch clamp recordings. Moreover, a keen interest in investigating the intricate neural circuits that underlie control of breathing is essential.
