Job Description
SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support documentation efforts for government and defense programs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation, including user guides, manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other technical publications. RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare, review, revise, and maintain operational directives, memos, congressional notifications, emergency directives, and technical documents. Conduct and facilitate document review/revision processes, reconcile comments, and maintain a comment resolution matrix. Develop and produce how-to guides, job aids, and process flow documentation. Work with developers, engineers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather technical information and translate it into clear, comprehensive documentation. Coordinate the layout, design, and formatting of technical documents using MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and other tools. Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, and training materials for DoD electronic equipment and systems. Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures, and large volumes of technical information to create well-structured documents. Apply technical writing concepts based on engineering documentation, SME consultations, and technical manual standards (e.g., MD Customer DS-89). Track document processing and coordinate approvals with action officers. QUALIFICATIONS: Proficiency in technical writing and editing, with strong grammar and communication skills. Experience with technical documentation tools, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. Ability to research and synthesize complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documents. Familiarity with government/DoD documentation standards and processes preferred. EDUCATION: Four (4) years of additional Technical Writer experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Eight (8) years' experience as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience.
