The Montclair Cooperative School is a private progressive school serving children ages 2.5 years–8th grade. We believe that joyful, inclusive classrooms create curious, confident learners who are prepared to solve real-world problems. This position is available from January 1, 2026-June 30, 2026.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative Upper School Assistant Teacher to support mathematics instruction for students in grades 6–8. This person will partner closely with our lead math teacher to nurture a love of math, strengthen students’ skills, and contribute to an engaging, student-centered learning environment.

• Support the lead teacher in planning, teaching, and assessing math lessons for grades 6–8
  
• Provide small-group and one-on-one support to help students deepen their understanding of math concepts
  
• Assist in differentiating instruction to meet a range of learning styles and needs
  
• Contribute ideas and energy to interdisciplinary and project-based learning opportunities
  
• Help maintain a safe, supportive, and organized classroom environment
  
• Supervise students during class, recess, lunch, and school events as needed
  
• Communicate openly and respectfully with students, colleagues, and families
  
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school-wide events
  

• Bachelor’s degree required; coursework or degree in mathematics or related field preferred
• Strong proficiency in middle school mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry)
• Previous classroom experience, ideally with grades 6–8
• Enthusiasm for progressive, student-centered education
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
